The Russian beauty and tennis goddess Maria Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon Champion had an unusual experience while playing one of the matches for this year's championship. This world class player got interrupted when, in order to hog everyone's (particularly Maria's) attention, a male disc jockey from Netherlands pranced and cartwheeled in the court after disrobing himself. This happened when Maria was playing opposite Elena Dementiva. Though the two ladies did not lose their concentration over the game, the Dutch streaker's intrusion resulted in a delay in the match for full ten seconds. However unfortunately Maria Sharapova did not make it to the 2006 Wimbledon finals and was seeded fourth in the tournament.
January 25th 2007: Maria Sharapova enters finals by defeating Kim Clijsters with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 win at the semi-final of the Australian open. The win has entitles Maria to meet the former champion Serena Williams during the finals. Maria’s opponent Clijsters had announced that she would retire at the end of this season and this was her final appearance in Melbourne. Sharapova relived the 2004 Wimbledon final while claiming the second set form Clijsters since the latere could not convert the crucial break points. Sharapova claimed five breaks while Clijsters could manage only two out of 12. Another strong point in favour of Maria was her 70% success rate.

2006: It wasn't easy at all but Maria posted a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1
win today against Maria Kirilenko to advance to the
Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, she will now face another Russian,
#10 seed Anastasia Myskina in the quarterfinals!
March 27th 2006: Maria posted another win yesterday in
Miami, she posted a 6-2, 7-6 win against Maria Camerin after
trailing 5-2 in the 2nd set at one point! She will now face
her good friend Maria Kirilenko.

March 25th 2006: Maria is back in action, she played and
posted an opening win, a 6-2, 6-4 win against Na Li, she
advances to the third round where she will now meet
Maria-Elena Camerin!
March 18th 2006: Awesome news! Maria won her first title of
the year as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 win against Elena
Dementieva in today's final of the Pacific Life Open! More

March 17th 2006: Great win today for Maria as she posted a
6-3, 6-3 win against Martina Hingis to advance to the
singles final, she will now face the surprising Elena
Dementieva in tomorrow's final!
March 16th 2006: Maria finally advanced fairly easily to the
semifinals in Indian Wells as she defeated Anna-Lena
Groenefeld 6-1, 6-3!! In her next match, she will once more
face Martina Hingis!!
March 15th 2006: Maria was challenged a bit yesterday but in
the end as she was able to post a 7-6, 6-1 win against
Shahar Peer! In her next match, she will face the #7 seed
Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
March 13th 2006: Good news! Maria continued her road in
Indian Wells, she posted a 6-4, 6-0 win against Lisa Raymond
to reach the fourth round!! She will now face Israel's
Shahar Peer!
March 11th 2006: Maria started her run in Indian Wells on
the right track as she posted a 6-4, 6-3 win against Jamea
Jackson! She will now face Lisa Raymond!
March 10th 2006: Maria has said she would not be making her
Fed Cup debut this year after all. She will not play the tie
between Russia and Belgium that is scheduled for April. By
the way, Maria is scheduled to play her first match in
Indian Wells today as she faces Jamea Jackson!
March 8th 2006: Maria is the #3 seed in the Pacific Life
